How can Health Coaching help me?
In a nutshell, health coaching helps you make positive changes for your health and general wellbeing. Health coaching is a supportive relationship.
It is holistic, that means that instead of focusing on one issue in isolation, we look at the bigger picture and everything that’s impacting your health to find the root causes.
Most importantly, a health coach is an ally. I’m here to help, support, and guide. Coaching clients say it’s a non-judgemental, positive, and empowering experience.
The majority of diseases in the UK are related to diet and lifestyle, our diets, stress, lack of exercise, poor sleep are all impacting our health. Most of us bury our heads in the sand but the consequences of ill health can be devastating.
The good news is that small changes to diet and lifestyle can have significant benefits and it doesn’t have to be complicated!
But change can be difficult even with the best intentions and strong willpower.
Research shows that the support of a health coach can help you overcome obstacles, break old habits, and form new, healthy patterns.
You don’t have to do this on your own!
The medical, pharmaceutical model most of us grew up with, is no longer able to support us with modern Chronic diseases and mental health issues. These conditions need a different approach and health coaching is an important part of this new model, focussing on lifestyle as well as diet to improve our health.
I hear from so many who are tired of struggling and fed up with countless diets that haven’t worked. They feel unable to stick at making healthier changes, unsure of what to do or overwhelmed by too much advice or even scared of what the future holds if they don’t do something.
But you can learn how to have a healthier relationship with food and break old patterns of behaviour that you know are damaging your health. You can make small, consistent changes that add up to have a big impact.
Using the best tools from behaviour science and psychology I will support you to make new lifestyle behaviours and food choices seem easy, automatic and consistent to benefit all aspects of your health.
If it’s time for you to prioritise your health, if you want to feel more balance in life, control your disease and turn your health around so you can live a full and active life then please get in touch, I look forward to hearing from you.
Why (and how) health coaching works
Backed by science
Health coaching draws on sound medical evidence, behavioural science, and the latest nutritional research. A study in the US found that people who received health coaching saw significant improvements to their weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose levels.
Work with your body
Crash diets and extreme health fads can do more harm than good. Health coaching is focused on sustainable, lasting change. That means working with, not against, your body, and taking small steady, steps towards a new and healthier lifestyle that you can maintain.
1:1 Support
Many people leave medical appointments feeling disheartened, scared, and alone. Health coaching gives you the support, encouragement, and practical tools to tackle chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight issues with confidence.
A bit about me
With a background in teaching and training, I was very lucky to spend many years working around the world as an education consultant. It was a great life with lots of travel, but high pressure and long hours took its toll on my health. I learnt a valuable lesson - good health is our most precious asset and nothing else really matters.
I’d had a keen interest in health and wellbeing for many years studying nutrition, cooking, massage therapy, and herbal medicine. Behaviour change was a key aspect of my job and I enjoyed studying this subject, developing my skills, and learning how to effect positive changes for the young people and families that I worked with.
The move into health coaching was a natural progression, bringing all of my interests, skills, and qualifications under one umbrella and giving me the opportunity to share this knowledge and experience to help others.
Alongside my health coaching here in Plymouth you might find me taking a cold dip in Firestone Bay, at the Saturday morning Parkrun, or enjoying a cocktail in the Leadworks.
Hope to meet you soon!
